We are getting close to the weekend when Bloody Scotland Book Festival will take place in Stirling. As we have mentioned before, Bloody Scotland will be the first International Crime Writing festival in Scotland, and it promises to be very exciting!
The weekend is full with interesting events not to be missed. Our project, published by students in collaboration with Merchiston Publishing, will have its own event on Sunday 16 September 2012, at the Stirling Highland Hotel.
The event is called Victorian Detectives and will be chaired by Professor Alistair McCleery, head of Merchiston Publishing and the Scottish Centre for the Book. As special guests, we will have Alanna Knight, who wrote the introduction for Detective McLevy’s Casebook and has her own successful victorian detective book series, and David Ashton, who has taken the McLevy character and is about to write the fourth novelisation of the short stories, as well as having written several BBC Radio series based on James McLevy. They both will discuss the influence McLevy has had on their own writing as well as crime-writing today in general.
Please, join us in a very special moment for our project! Prices are £7/£6 (concession), but it is possible to get some discount if you buy several tickets across the weekend. You can book online and find the full programme and detailed information here.
Detective stories do not have to be serious. For that reason, and to show how much we enjoyed filming our McLevy short videos, we have decided to do a new video including the funniest outtakes. Enjoy!
Our cover is ready! We want to give special thanks to Iain McIntosh for this wonderful illustration and to our design team for the great job they have done with it. We hope you like it as much as we do. You can find out more about Iain McIntosh by visiting his website.

Detective McLevy’s Casebook now has a trailer. Check it out!
Detective McLevy’s Casebook will include an introduction by Edinburgh-based crime writer Alanna Knight.
Alanna Knight is a prolific writer, having written around 60 books, including gothic and historical novels, crime fiction, and non-fiction works on Robert Louis Stevenson. Her more successful and acclaimed series of books is The Inspector Faro Series, featuring Victorian detective Jeremy Faro and set in Edinburgh. For more info, you can visit her webpage.
We are very happy that Alanna Knight is writing an introduction for us because she is an excellent crime writer who is an expert on crime fiction set in Victorian times. She was very kind to agree to help us and has offered to try her best to include our book in the celebrations for Sherlock Holmes’ 125th anniversary at Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival, which will take place on 14th – 16th September 2012 in Stirling.

Our illustrator, Iain McIntosh, has sent us the first drafts of his ideas for Detective McLevy’s Casebook‘s cover. We have 7 different illustrations so far, all including notes of Iain McIntosh’s thoughts.
You can find these illustrations in our ‘Illustrator’ section in this website. We hope you like them as much as we do! You can see one of the examples below:
These are the photos we took on our trip to The Old Town in Edinburgh. We tried to capture the dark, Victorian mood of McLevy’s Edinburgh.
Today, our team has come up with the final title for our book. After a session full of ideas, possibilities and discussions about what would fit best in the market and look better in the cover design, we have agreed a title for our collection of short stories. We all have voted and decided that the book will be named Detective McLevy’s Casebook: Tales of Edinburgh’s Victorian Underworld.
After this exciting decision, we all felt ready to choose the stories that would feature in the book. Our Editorial team had made a great effort by shortlisting 30 stories and writing synopses for all of them, so that all the other teams could also have a voice in the final selection.
